Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

I need the RC Code for the NS-R5101HD for the Insignia NS-L46X10A LCD TV Remote Control and the Time Warner Cable Atlas OCAP 5-Device Remote Control (1056B01).

I can see that the 5101HD uses seperate codes for power on/off, but it would be nice to control the volume from the TV remote and Set Top Box remote.

I've tried all of the Insignia and Sherwood Codes.  Using the search function of the remotes doesn't work, probably because of the seperate POWER ON and STANDBY buttons on the 5101HD remote.

I don't understand why Insignia product remotes don't work together.  It's seem counter productive to the brand.

Thanks,

Re: Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

Hi MikeJ and welcome to the forum.

The products were released at different times, thus the incompatibility.

We are looking forward to make sure all future products are compatible between them (remote control wise).

At this point my advice is to try using a Universal remote.

Gonzo

Re: Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

WoW! This is the worst piece of advice from a tech support I think I've ever heard!

You're telling a customer, that they need to go spend another $50-150 on new universal remote because of you and your company's ineptness.

My suggestion to anyone else that comes across this post, is to return the Insignia and spend that extra $50-150 and get a better brand like a Sony, that your cable/universal remote will work with!

Thats what I'm going to tell my friend to do and let anyone that ever asks me about the Insignia brand know this story.

Re: Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

I have to agree.  With the number of components in a home theater system and the penetration rate for cable TV and satilite systems, remote codes are a must.

There must be 10's of millions of Comcast remotes in use, and they should not release a product with knowing how the product will be used.

Re: Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

Buy a universal remote?  But the Insignia TV and Cable Box remotes ARE universal remotes.

I don't want the power on/off code, since I never turn the receiver off, I just want a code that will work with the volume control.

Sheesh!

Ok, problem solved, no thanks to Tech Support.

The key is to have a LEARNING remote control.  Interesting thing is, my cable remote AND Insignia TV remote are BOTH learning remotes!  Now, the cable remote must be too old of a model for the NS-R5101HD frequencies.

I missed the part in the Insignia NS-L46X-10A LCD TV manual about it being learning a remote control.  My TV remote control LEARNED the reciever volume and mute controls PERFECTLY to the AUX key!

Hmm... I thought.  Why program the receiver to the AUX key?  I don't use the Set Top Box (cable box) or TV volume controls at all.  So, I programmed the receiver UP/DOWN Volume and MUTE to replace the STB button controls.  This makes sense, because when surfing, I often must change the receiver volume.

One more thing I did.  Since I also have the receiver programmed to the AUX input, I programmed the receiver DVD button to the CHANNEL DOWN button and the receiver CABLE/SAT button the CHANNEL UP button.  I can now fully control ALL of my components from TV remote.

Re: Remote Control Code for NS-R5101HD

So just to be clear:

You managed to get your Insignia TV remote to work with the NS-R5101HD receiver and not the cable box remote, correct? Did you use a specific code or just use its learning ability?

Thanks!
