TV won't respond.

I'm having a strange problem with my TV.  It is an NS-46E481A13.  After it has been on for awhile it will stop responding to the remote and the side buttons.  The only way to shut it off is to unplug it.  If you plug it right back in it will often flicker and freeze on whatever is on especially if you try to go to the menu or anything.  If you leave it for a bit it will respond normally again for awhile but eventually will stop responding.  The flicking only seems to happen when you try to use the remote (menu, volume, channel, etc) and then only sometimes.  If you turn it on and leave it completely alone it seems to be fine until you try to turn it off.  It seems to do this on all inputs.  Any thoughts or solutions?  Thank you for your help!

Hello sullythehat,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

I'd like to know what you have the TV connected to and how it is connected.   That will give a better idea of what might be going on.

Re: TV won't respond.

It is connected by HDMI to a sat box and by VGA to a computer.

Re: TV won't respond.

Hello sullythehat,

I have some more questions.  Is this happening on both inputs?  Are your satellite remote or the TV remote?   I'd like you to pull the batteries out of the remote and then press all of the buttons on it twice.  This will reset the remote and let us see if it is the issue.

Re: TV won't respond.

i am having this exact problem, i have it connected to a rca streaming box and connected to cable. The tv will stop responding to the remote and the side buttons will not work as well after 2 hours of use, only fix is to disconnect the tv from the wall. i have dont the remote reset and the problem persists. we have had this tv for a little over a year.

Re: TV won't respond.

Hello rudogg760,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

Im sorry to hear you're having the same type of issue. If the side buttons are not responding well, that does imply it is a tv issue, not a remote issue. I would suggest the same style of reset for the tv, in terms of unplugging the tv from the power outlet. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the side of the set for about 30 seconds. Then release button, plug back into power, power unit back up, and see if that helps to correct the issue.

Re: TV won't respond.

I have a similar issue. TV has been working fine. Now nothing. I have unplugged it. And waited, but nothing. The tv no longer response to the remote and the buttons on the side do nothing. It will turn on and then nothing. The light turns on and goes from red to blue but no other responses. And then to turn off I must unplug.

This is a NS-PDP50HD-09

Hello MGT,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

It sounds like you are having a slightly different issue. At this point I would suggest trying a slightly different step. While the TV is unplugged, hold down the power button on the tv itself for about 30 seconds. Once the time is up, let go, and plug the tv back into the outlet. Without pressing anything look at the indicator light. If it automatically changes to Blue, then the tv has a faulty board that is preventing it from functioning correctly.

Re: TV won't respond.

Sorry misunderstanding. The lights only change when the power button is pushed. And although the button is pushed it only works once and all it does is change the light and then nothing else happens.

My additional research appears to point toward a capacitor failure. Upon taking off the back of the TV the board has a green LED that blinks in a repeating sequence of 4 blinks then a pause. My understanding is that is an error code that points to a capacitor issue.

Re: TV won't respond.

Hello MGT,

Thank you for responding!

At this point you are getting more into component repair, which is in the realm of Geek Squad as they handle all warranty servicing of our devices. Unfortunately we do not have any access to the Service Manuals for the set, so I'm not going to be a lot of help in this situation.
