USB on NS-42E859A11

Our new TV Model NS-42E859A11 purchased from Best Buy has a USB port however the manual says not to use. Would like to use the TV USB port for same functions as on a PC. Like displaying jpeg pictures from a thumb drive, connecting wireless keyboard and mouse. Any plans to make the USB port available for owner use? Thanks..

Hello,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I consulted our product developement team and there are currently no plans to add functionality to the USB port on this model TV. I will certainly pass along your remarks and interest however!

I agree with you. I bought this TV for occasional use as a large digital frame and the Best Buy told me this would do the trick. Maybe I can still return it.

Agreed. This is completely ridiculous. I was incredibly disappointed to find that the USB port was not immediately functional. Now to find out that it probably never will be is absurd. Luckily, it isn't too late to return it.

Why not? I did. I'll stick with my Samsung. Higher price, but better for what I want it for and greater flexibility without some thrid party called Chumby

Re: USB on NS-42E859A11

Hey, I got around the USB problem. Purchased a VGA cable and connected an HP Mini laptop (could use any computer)  and now can do almost anything without using APPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I agree INSIGNIA  APPS suck!! My only problem has been losing sound switching back and forth between TV and VGA which is not a ONE KEY process and should be........... Any way, use your USB on your PC with a VGA cable from PC to TV. Better yet, just buy a TV that's computer ready (is same as a monitor) without WIFI.  IE: a monitor that's LED and BIG!! It's cheaper.

Re: USB on NS-42E859A11

Oh, forgot to mention, purchased a Logetich K260 wireless keyboard and mouse from Radio Shack on sale for $14.99. This really makes it easy to use UBS for anything from the PC and see it on the TV.......  Your PC connected to a computer ready TV will do anything a WIFI TV will do. BUT, I also ran a Eithernet cable from my ATT modem to a LINKsys Wireless router and then to the TV,  That way, can use the silly APPS supplied by INSIGINA if ever want to and allows friends to use router also. Best of both worlds. Happy New Year...

Re: USB on NS-42E859A11

then why does the TV advertise a USB port when I was viewing it at best buy (stickers on the front of the tv advertised features such as built in wifi, 1080p resolution and USB port!)... it seems like serious false advertising if the USB port is being touted as a feature but is useless to the user!
