insignia ns-26l450a11 won't connect to macbook pro

I bought my Insignia TV around October and up until late (Jan 2011) had no problem using HDMI cables to connect the TV as a moniter for my Macbook Pro. Now, no matter what I do (restart the computer, detect displays, shut TV off/on) my computer will not detect the Insignia. This may be an issue with my Macbook, but any help from you all would be appreciated too.

Thanks.

Re: insignia ns-26l450a11 won't connect to macbook pro

Hello heydane,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I have some questions for you:

  • Have you tried connecting your Macbook via a different HDMI port?
  • Have you replaced the HDMI cable?
  • Have you recently updated your home theater system?
  • What version of Mac OS X are you running?
  • Have you recently upgraded your OS?
If your configuration was previously functional and now is not, then the most likely cause is a change to the computer or your home theater system.  Any additional details you can provide (more is better) would be helpful.

Regards,
John

Re: insignia ns-26l450a11 won't connect to macbook pro

Thanks for reply:
  • Have you tried connecting your Macbook via a different HDMI port? Yes, all 4 ports on TV.
  • Have you replaced the HDMI cable? Not yet.
  • Have you recently updated your home theater system? No.
  • What version of Mac OS X are you running?  10.6.6
  • Have you recently upgraded your OS? I believe the most update was from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6
Can HDMI cables "burn" out?

Re: insignia ns-26l450a11 won't connect to macbook pro

Hello again heydane,

Cables can indeed go bad. Oftentimes, replacing the cable can resolve a connectivity problem like you describe where no other change was made. I'd recommend trying a new cable as your next step.  You might also wish to investigate that no settings changes resulted from your last OS upgrade, just to be sure.  Let us know your results!

Re: insignia ns-26l450a11 won't connect to macbook pro

I have the same exact problem with my insignia tv and my MacBook pro. I have tried different hdmi cords and ports, it's the tv because my computer works fine on other Tvs. It's really frustrating to spend like 30 minutes every single time I want to connect the two and sometimes it doesn't work at all.
